I grew up in Dayton, Ohio, so I grew up hating on the Browns, in favor of Cincinnati. As a young sports writer for the local monthly publication – Pride Magazine, and the weekly, Dayton Black Press, I always managed to extract a positive story from the Bengals press releases every week.
I approached the Bengals’ press director for some love, in the shape of some press passes and a few tickets that we could give away to our readers, and or advertisers. He ghosted me. Repeatedly. As I was considering a move to the west coast, I blasted the Bengals in my column and became a Raiders fan.
Anyway, I’m still not a Browns fan but I don’t like the Ravens either, so go Browns.
In an intense AFC North showdown on October 27, 2024, the Cleveland Browns
defeated the Baltimore Ravens 29-24 in a thrilling back-and-forth game that showcased impressive plays on both sides. The Browns snapped a five-game losing streak and claimed their first divisional win of the season.
The Browns opened with a field goal late in the first quarter, and after a slow start offensively, both teams began finding the end zone in the second half. Dustin Hopkins’ 28-yard field goal gave Cleveland an early lead, but the Ravens quickly answered with a 49-yard field goal from Justin Tucker, tying the game 3-3. The Browns added another field goal, and just before halftime, Lamar Jackson connected with Nelson Agholor for an 11-yard touchdown, putting Baltimore up 10-6 going into the break.
The third quarter brought the offensive spark for Cleveland. Browns quarterback Jameis Winston connected with tight end David Njoku for a 23-yard touchdown, giving Cleveland a 13-10 lead. Jackson responded by finding Mark Andrews for a seven-yard touchdown, putting Baltimore back up 17-13. Winston then struck again, this time with rookie receiver Cedric Tillman, whose 22-yard touchdown catch put Cleveland back on top 20-17.
Early in the fourth quarter, the Browns’ defense held strong as Justin Tucker missed a critical 50-yard field goal,
preserving Cleveland’s slim lead. Hopkins then extended the Browns’ advantage with a 48-yard field goal, making it 23-17 with five minutes left. Baltimore countered with a two-yard touchdown run by Derrick Henry, reclaiming a 24-23 lead with under three minutes remaining.
With the game on the line, Winston led the Browns on a final, game-winning drive. In the last minute, he delivered a 38-yard touchdown strike to Tillman, sealing a 29-24 victory. The Browns’ attempt at a two-point conversion failed, but their defense held off Baltimore in the closing seconds to secure the win.
This thrilling victory marked Cleveland’s first home win of the season and moved them to 2-6. Winston finished with 334 passing yards and three touchdowns, and Tillman stood out with 99 receiving yards and two crucial touchdowns.
